Camp Good News
Camp Good News is the "brand name" of CEF’s camping ministry to boys and girls ages 7 to 12. At Camp Good News, campers will be challenged to grow in their faith. Many children make positive life-changing decisions at camp. We will encourage campers to respect authority, honor their parents, get along with others, and to develop daily spiritual habits such as time in prayer and Bible reading.
Activities at Camp Good News are fun and diverse. Every scheduled activity and every facility component provides a ministry opportunity. The game room is a place to learn about winning and losing. Challenge course initiatives teach unity and teamwork. A hand-made craft teaches creativity, perseverance and patience. The dining hall is a place to learn to be thankful for God's provision. While hiking, campers learn about God's creation. Chapel is a place for worship, prayer and learning about God. Biblical principles are taught and reinforced throughout the day in varied circumstances.
Staff for Camp Good News receives intensive training. Topics in the training include: how to teach children spiritual truths, childcare skills, first-aid, emergency procedures and how to handle camper situations such as homesickness and discipline. The emphasis of the Camp Good News program is building a loving relationship between the camp counselor and the camper. At camp there is time for quality fellowship, breaking bread together, serving one another, and so forth.
There is also time for individual, one-on-one counseling with a child. Often, specific counselors or staff members that may have experienced challenges and trials similar to that of the child may be brought in for advice or to share how they overcame the same situation the child may be facing. With counseling, there is the ability to provide "on-the-spot" encouragement and shepherding as the child's spiritual development is revealed.
The Camp Good News program can be over a short-weekend, long-weekend, or over a holiday week. The camp can take place at a campsite, on private property, or at a public park. Camp Good News could even be a day camp without having overnight facilities.
We look forward to seeing many children come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior through the ministry of Camp Good News. To God be the glory.
